Mystic Maud was one nickname given to Carlotta Thompkins because she was not forthcoming about where she came from. Not wanting to bring embarrassment to her family, as she had become a gambler and saloon keeper, she kept information on her family out of the public eye. She reportedly was the inspiration for Miss Kitty on the TV series Gunsmoke. She also reportedly won $ 3,000 one night from Doc Holiday.
